Initially, I started my YouTube channel to film car restorations, then planned to show my road trip from Scotland to Thailand in a bulletproof defender. You can read about that here: Daily Record Scottish Sun
My plan was to restore 4 MK2 16v Golfs, sell them, and then drive to Thailand in a modified "Snatch 2A" Land Rover. Unfortunately, due to suffering a breakdown I was unable to do this. It was a lengthy road to recovery but I was able to start producing content again in June 2024.
I am currently producing 2 YouTube series, one called "Depression Help," and another called, "The Rookie Entrepreneur." I have a car unit, and as soon as I have bought the remaining things I need, and a starter car, I will be filming a new car series, which I think will be very exciting!
You can find out more about these series below. Click on any of the pictures to be taken to the first episode.
I chose to "come out," about my own battle with depression following a couple of young suicides in Kilwinning, which is one of the places I played in as a DJ. I felt that if more people, especially guys, weren't afraid to talk openly about their feelings, there might be less chance of people turning to suicide. Through ministry, I had the sad job of conducting funerals for several young people, including those who had, sadly, committed suicide. This only increased my desire to do anything I could do to be a very small part of attacking the stigma around mental illness. Unfortunately, I was criticised for sharing my own struggles, by the Church of Scotland. I recently discovered this letter, in response to the above article. It would seem that there were many, outside 121, who felt, and do feel, that sharing my struggles has been helpful to them. https://digital.lifeandwork.org/articles/147772?article=10-1&index=3
My "Depression Help" series, is my latest way of trying to help others who struggle with depression. At this point, there isn't really any question about whether I'm neurodivergent, the question is, which type? The leading theory just now is that I've been unknowingly dealing with ADHD, all my life. When in a position to do so, I will invest in the futher tests which have been recommended to me.
I decided to chart my progress from rock bottom, to becoming a philanthropist, in "The Rookie Entrepreneur" series.
I'm hopeful that these videos will be helpful to people who have never had their own business, and would like to go from employee, or unemployed, to business owner.
I pretty much lost everything through the pandemic, and through liquidating assets for money to live on, when I was unfit for work.
I really hit rock bottom, in every sense of the term. I'm extremely glad to be on an upward trajectory, and living back in the closest thing I have to a hometown, Forfar.
I think part of the victory out of suffering, is using your experience to help others. I really hope that these episodes will be helpful!
I don't currently earn anything from YouTube.
There used to be the option to "monetise," your channel. This meant that YouTube would run adverts on your videos, and that you would get a percentage of the ad income. Currently, YouTube run ads on whatever videos they wish, including mine, and you don't receive any of the ad revenue until you have 500 subscribers.
If you'd like to support me in producing content, it's a simple as just subscribing to my channel.
